'Grade 1-3 tear of the soleus or the gastrocnemius'


Causes

  • Inadequate warm up

  • Extensive scar tissue

  • Hyper tonic muscle group

  • Over-strain/Overstretched

  • Unaccustomed activity


Symptoms

  • Sudden sharp pain

  • Difficulty in contracting or standing on tiptoes

  • Pain, swelling or bruising in the calf muscle


Treatment

  • R.I.C.E when acute

  • Heel raise

  • Stretching

  • Massage

  • Rehabilitation exercises
