We get asked regularly which type of massage would be the best treatment for that particular individual. Sometimes, there can be confusion to what both treatments actually entail, and our most common we get asked question is …..'What is the difference?'
Although our therapists will always perform an initial consultation with a client, and provide the appropriate massage treatment, here at Sports Therapy Hub, we aim to educate our clients regarding injuries, as well as treat and prevent.
Below we give a brief to what the difference between Sports Massage and Deep Tissue Massage is:
Sports Massage
Sports Massage is a treatment involving manipulation of soft tissue, in order to prevent or improve sports injuries. Sports Massage is usually performed on clients who are physically active in exercise or sports, where injuries can easily occur.
Sports Massage is often directed at healing a sports related injury, or helping to prevent injuries, and has a number of benefits such as enhances recovery, increases flexibility, reduces DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness), reduces muscular tension and pain.
Our Sports Massage therapists have experience and knowledge to treat common sports injuries such as hamstring strains, rotator cuff injuries, shin splints or knee pain.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Massage is treatment that may not be 'sports specific', and focuses on manipulating and realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue, by applying deep pressure to muscle fibres.
Deep Tissue Massage is especially beneficial for chronic aches and pains in areas such as stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders, generally focusing on more than one body part during sessions.
Our Deep Tissue Massage therapists can identify areas where muscles maybe weak, which can lead to injuries.
We use specific techniques such as effleurage, petrissage, soft tissue release and stretches to help obtain maximum performance, physical conditioning, improve flexibility and range of motion, with less chance of injury or pain.
We will work with you to ensure you receive the appropriate massage treatment, whilst providing education and advice on how to treat and prevent the injury in future.
