Plantar Fasciitis

'Inflammation caused by the excessive stretching of the plantar fascia'


Causes

  • Overpronation/Flat feet

  • Reduced range into dorsiflexion

  • Sudden increase in activity

  • Excessive weight

  • Obesity/Pregnancy

  • Improperly fitting footwear

Symptoms

  • Stiffness and pain first thing in the morning

  • Pain upon direct pressure over site of dysfunction

  • Pain upstairs, on tiptoes or standing for long periods

  • Pain sometimes lessens as exercise continues

  • Associated tightness of Achilles and Gastrocnemius

Treatment

  • Address underlying reason for issue i.e - Biomechanics

  • Increase in activity

  • Weight gain

  • Poor footwear

  • Excessive tension into dorsiflexors
